Traditional Banga Soup (Palm Fruit Soup)

Traditional Banga Soup (Palm Fruit Soup)

Banga soup is intensity and fragrance in a bowl. The richness of palm fruit extract meets layered herbs and warming spices, creating a broth that lingers long after the meal. Traditionally complex to balance, our blend delivers the correct harmony of heat, earthiness, and aroma in one measured step.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups palm fruit extract (Tinned Palm Extracts Are Fine)
  • Assorted meats (beef, tripe, or goat) or Catfish
  • 3 cups stock
  • 2–3 tbsp Spice Therapy Banga blend

Method

  1. Season and simmer meats in stock until tender.
  2. Add palm fruit extract and stir thoroughly.
  3. Introduce the Spice Therapy blend and mix well.
  4. Allow to simmer uncovered until slightly thickened and aromatic.
  5. Adjust liquid consistency as needed and serve hot.
  6. Serve with pounded yam or starch swallow.

Notes From the Apothecary

Palm fruit extract is naturally rich in antioxidants and essential fatty acids, supporting cellular resilience and sustained energy. Traditional Banga spices are warming and aromatic, often associated with digestive support and circulatory stimulation. Slow simmering allows the oils and spices to integrate fully, creating a broth that is both nourishing and grounding.

Our blend is milled in disciplined small batches to preserve volatile oils and natural potency, no preservatives, no fillers, no compromise.

How Best to Serve

Best served when depth is desired. Banga belongs to patient cooking days and tables that value heritage. It pairs beautifully with starches that carry and absorb its richness, allowing each spoonful to unfold gradually.

It is not rushed food. It is deliberate food. A dish for slow afternoons of contentment and honoured guests.

The Ritual

Banga is not loud, it is profound. In the apothecary kitchen, richness is not excess; it is balance. Palm, spice, and time work together under measured heat. Nothing is scattered. Nothing is wasted.

Stir with patience. Simmer with intention. Depth reveals itself to those who wait.
